Koa – Acoustic Guitar Tonewood Guide

Koa is one of the most visually striking exotic hardwoods. It’s commonly used for backs & sides of acoustic guitars, but can also be used for the tops. Koa is a very sweet sounding wood with a little bit of definition, and a warmness- similar to Mahogany. It’s midrange is sparkly, and it’s high-end is fairly articulate. Koa is a great match for fingerstyle players. Koa also may take close to a year of solid playing before it can truly produce it’s natural volume & sweetness.
